The Elgin Railway Market:
Your senses will be delighted by the smells from the artisanal food vendors offering a variety of dishes and your sights amazed by the architectural art-deco building style. Try local on-tap craft beers, ciders and wine, live entertainment and there’s also fun activities to keep the kids occupied .
The Elgin Steam Train:
Step back in time and enjoy the nostalgia of steam trains.
Part of Ceres Rail Company’s mission is to help preserve and promote South African Rail Heritage. The ride from the CPT harbour to the Elgin Railway Market is a fun day long outing the whole family will enjoy.
A picturesque setting on the Eikenhof dam the club is a base for many sporting activities and mountain trails for hiking and 4×4 enthusiasts. It’s also a great wedding venue catering for up to 145 people and the restaurant offers a variety of dishes at affordable prices. Lunch and a stroll around the dam should be on your to-do list!
For the adventurous the Elgin zip line is a MUST! Of the seven locations in South Africa, Elgin offers the most, longest and highest slides. So you are getting real bang for your buck. The staff are super friendly and you’ll get a great video clip to show all your friends. A definite bucket-list item and if my 57 year old mother can do it then so can you!

At an elevation of 350 meters above sea level it is the coolest climate wine region in South Africa. Meander between the more than twenty regional wine farms and enjoy some of the excellent wines on offer. Our favorites are Oak Valley (do try the “Fountain of Youth” Sav Blanc and the Riesling), Almen Kerk for their amazing views (do try the Rose & Sav Blanc) and South Hill Wines where you can also get a bite to eat (try their Sav Blanc & Rose)!
Elgin Farm Stalls:
Now what would a journey along the N2 be without a stop at one of our infamous farm stalls?
Peregrine – This establishment has been around for donkeys years and make most arguably the BEST pies in the world. They also serve a great breakfast if you want to sit down, or just grab something for the road.
The Orchards – closest to Villa Eike, this would be a great place to start your day with breakfast. There is also a pub upstairs for guests wanting to socialize with the locals or watch a sports game.
Houw Hoek Farm Stall – also stiff competition for the best pie in SA, this establishment is further up the N2 but also a great place to stop for breakfast or lunch.
The valley offers MTB enthusiasts a variety of popular routes that cater to all skill levels. These include the Cape Pine forestry plantations near Elgin Country Club, the Oak Valley Wine Estate route and the routes at Paul Cluver and Lebanon.
